Fleury heads lists of players named to Home Hardware CHL Top Prospects Game

Marc-Andre Fleury of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles heads the list of forty players that were selected to participate in the 2003 Home Hardware Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game that will be played at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex on Wednesday, January 22 at 7:00 p.m. The announcement of the players selected was made by the CHL and the National Hockey League today at a press conference in Kitchener. The players named are forty of the top prospects from the CHL that are eligible for this year’s NHL Entry Draft that will be held in Nashville on June 21 and 22.

The list of forty names, which was created by the thirty member teams of the National Hockey League and the NHL’s Central Scouting Bureau, consists of four goaltenders, 12 defencemen and 24 forwards. By league there are 13 players each from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Western Hockey with the Ontario Hockey League contributing 14 players.

A member of Canada’s silver medal team at the 2003 World Junior Hockey Championships, Fleury is joined by two other players that participated in the World Junior Hockey Championships in Nova Scotia. The Guelph Storm’s Dustin Brown and Patrick O’Sullivan of the Mississauga IceDogs played for the United States at this year’s junior championships. Also included in the group of 40 are three players that were invited to the final selection camp for Canada’s national junior team. Nathan Horton of the Oshawa Generals, Braydon Coburn of the Portland Winter Hawks and the Peterborough Petes’ Eric Staal will participate in this year’s Home Hardware CHL Top Prospects Game.

The Halifax Mooseheads have the largest team contingent for this year’s Home Hardware CHL Top Prospects Game with four players. The Red Deer Rebels, the Moncton Wildcats, the Brandon Wheat Kings, the Calgary Hitmen, and the Medicine Hat Tigers have all had two players from their respective team selected to play in the January 22 game.

From a host team perspective, Mike Richards of the host Kitchener Rangers has been named as a participant in this year’s Home Hardware CHL Top Prospects Game. In 40 games with the Rangers this season Richards has 52 points on 19 goals and 33 assists.

Below is the list of players that have been selected to participate in the 2003 Home Hardware CHL Top Prospects Game.
